Last Saturday I was invited to play the after party of The Heartbreaks sold out gig at the Deaf Institute.
This is the first opportunity I’ve had to see the Morecamber’s perform since well before the first album (Funtimes) was released and from start to finish they put on an electric performance that left nobody in the Deaf Institute dance hall disappointed. Hey Hey Lover is the bands new single and it’s been stuck in my head since i first heard it.
In the afternoon I spent hours digging for records at Endless Music in Prestwich. For those that don’t know this little gem it’s located on Bury New Road. Typically you’ll ring the bell to gain entry and you are kindly greeted by the owner who tends to be sat in front of Sky Sports News cheering on United.. and anyone who is playing City.
Baring in mind the influences of the band, choosing records for the after party was as simple and as enjoyable as you could wish for it to be. Lots of 80s new wave indie, the kind of songs that make you wanna go out and throw stones at the police.
Sooo here’s my pick of the night, a wonderful and rare 12″ Scouse/Mancunian blend.
